P.A. Kelley 1987 Journal run transects across the study-site from about H.25 to H.97. We started at every third one of Patton's nearest Long Field grid markers - ie. C59, A56, A53, A50, C47, C44, D41, D38, C35, C32, C29. We ran 11 transects in all, 30m apart and noted dominant cover, extent of canopy, and the position of the creek. I must see Jim Griffin about getting an accurate vegetation map of the study site. From 3.30-5.00, I put out the latest 20 Shelters, and set traps at both ends of the field (see trapping record). Jim Griffin brought me my extendable aluminium ladder yesterday. It reaches to 13.5 ft. although the MVZ apparently ordered a 20.0ft one. Is someone trying to save a few $?, or just, shit, it is 20'? I also took a hike up School Hill with rifle but didn't see any pigs munching on the overwhelming corn crop. From 7-9pm, I finished assembling the remaining 20 trap shelters. I now have 100 ready for action, and 80 are already in the field. I also intend to start using 10-20 of them immediately at outlying houses looking for dispersers. 10.15pm: Started Checking Traps. Caught only 4.
