P.A.Kelley 1987 Journal Thurs Oct. 29 Hastings Nat. Hist. Res., Carmel Valley, Monterey Co., C.A. left Berkeley 2.30pm arrived Hastings at about 6pm. Too dark to set any traps - the clocks changed back from Daylight-Savings Time (PDT) to Pacific Standard Time (PST) last weekend. In any case the skies are very heavy with rainclouds. Hastings got a few inches of badly-needed rain over the past week or so. Fri Oct. 30 Started assembling my trap-shelters in Walter Koenig's Garage. The HVZ gave me $200 towards the purchase of plywood and pine for 100 Two-Trap Shelters. Bob Jones helped me a week or so ago to cut the pine planks into 16" lengths, and the ply into 16.25" x 13.5" x 13.5" x 7.0" pieces for top, bottom, and back. (7½") Open at front -> (Holds Tomahawks.) Closed at back but with 4-½ gap at top. Got 30 assembled by 3pm and put them out in long field at active houses 1 to 76. Jim Griffin showed me the remains of a dead bobcat across the creek from the lower Barn. Pretty rotten right now but I intend to come back for the skeleton. Met Mark Stanback's new field assistant Connie Adams (from U-State New York). I also picked a box of B. lobata acorns for preference silt.
