P.A. Kelly 1987 Journal Hastings Nat Hist. Res. around 11:30pm Jan. 4th I was called at home in Albany by Mark Stanback. He and Nancy Popkin were returning to Hastings when they noticed a woodrat (02257) sitting at the side of the lane (close to H1) near the Y. Mark approached him on foot and he eventually tried to crawl away using only his front feet. He didn't have any power in his hind-quarters. He didn't squeal when Mark lifted him by the base of the tail and he didn't have any outward signs of injury. Mark placed him in an aquarium with bedding and food in the hope that he would recover. He died 2 days later. Cat # PAK 159. Jan 13 8pm Saw [illegible] 14 frogs come across the lane from Gate Field into the long field (around the Spider Tree). Many of the frogs were large. I think 5 or 6 cows were present. I walked to within about 30 yds before they headed back if Gate Field again. Jan. 14 While Trapping in the area of the 2nd Crossing for the first time saw a large bobcat eat a gopher in Horsetail Field. Approached him(?) to about 50 yds, he headed up into the chamise.
