P.A. Kelly 1986 Journal Sept 10 Got up 6.30 am. After breakfast checked and lifted all 10 traps SE of Salmon Cr Bridge. Got 1 young O Dusky Tail. Climbed to top of the rockslide. Same as the bottom. Fair amount of old white wash, sheekled in places with small amounts of wine. One urine deposit was still wet. Between 9.30 & 10.15 I checked out the big Rockfield 2.2 mi E. of S.F. State Field Station (just W. of 6000 ft elevation marker on Hwy). Found no fresh Nestoma sign, only pika sign but none were calling like last yr. Continued on E on Hwy 49 over Yuba Pass and into Sierra Valley. Then S on Hwy 89 through Sierraville to Sagehen. Did a little exploring along the W side of Cottonwood Cr. en route. Processed the rat from Yuba River (Cat#152), took blood, saliva, saliv.gland, muscle, heart, kidney, liver & 2 ml. of urine. Between 5-6.30 set 10 tomahawks at U.S spring, 5 at L.S spring and 10 at Rockslide. Baited with peanut butter + oatmeal and set singly. No running water at Station for the next few days: pain in the ass. Drove in to Truckee in evening for some TV dinners and drinks. Checked all traps between 9.30 & 11.00 pm. Moon approaching first 1/4, setting around 11 pm.
