P.A. Kelly 1986 Journal July 13 (cont.) Around 5pm we set 12 tomahawks singly at Mile 4.2. We also opened the 12 traps on the Upper Spring and the 6 on the lower Spring for an hour, or two at about 8:30pm. But closed them early. 2126 PST U. Spring & 2186 Lower W. Side - den in rocks. July 14 0556 PST Mile 4.2 ♀ 1224 219g, perf. nullip. new ♂ 1252 363g lifted all traps and after breakfast headed to Truckee for supplies. By noon was heading East on Hways 267, 28, 50 & 395 to Nevada. Headed E. off Hwy 395 on Topaz Lane, Eastside ln., and Rinse Rd. to search for Neotoma cinerea habitat (like Smokie Cr., Washoe Co.) along Desert Cr. It looked too dry (Pinyon/ Juniper) and I couldn't see brushy-tails getting there, so we turned back and headed S. on 395 to Bodie Rd. (Hwy 270). About 3 miles E. of 395 we found some rockslide with Aspen cover along Clearwater Cr. on S. side of Hwy 270. Clearwater Cr., 3mi. E. of Hwy 395, Mono Co., California Sue and I set 20 Tomahawks baited with pea- ut butter & oatmeal along by the creek beneath aspen. Didn't see any fresh brushy-tail sign but did see some old whitewash in places. We camped in a turnabout on the N. side of Hwy 270.
