Journal.
June 29 (cont.) In the afternoon I searched for other bushy
tail localities to the NE of the Sagenan Basin.
Drove N-NW on Cottonwood Rd to its junction
with Cottonwood Creek (Sierraville 7½' USGS quad)
Plenty of deciduous fodder (willows, some
aspens & cottonwoods) lent little in the way
of good rock cover. Did not see any wood
rat whitewash. I also drove W along the
Henness Pass Rd past Kyburz Flat to
Groundhog Rock (Sardine Peak 7½' USGS quad.).
More rocks and willows and aspen along
Davios Creek, but did not see any white
wash. None at Groundhog Rock either.
Started setting traps c. 6:30 pm (PDT):
Set 10 at U. Spring, 6 at h. Spring, 6 at Rockslide
and 6 at X89. Released ♂ 1221 @ Rockslide and
♀ 1220 at X89. I shooked a long-eared Myotis,
Myotis evotis from under a piece of loose rock
at X89, he (>) I think, big penis?) flew to
a Manzanita bush 30-40' away. Caught him
in my bandana for identification back at
the field station. Released him again around
10pm when I started checking traps.
