A.A. Kelly 1986 Journal April 18. The Old Hze was surrounded by large (cont.) Willows, Poplars, and some other finkish ornamental (?) shrub. Lots of woodrat sign but none of it recent. We set 10 more traps around this ranch. Went hunting for jackrabbits in the evening, but could not find any. There are lots of birds around however - Canada Goose, Shovelker, Pintail, Green-Winged Teal, Cinnamon Teal, Eared (?) Gosse, Kestrel, Robin, Yellow-Rumped Warbler, Am. Goldfinch, W. Screech Owl. We camped overnight at the Cornell Place. April 19 Didn't catch woodrats in any of the 20 traps lifted them all. Headed back towards California around 11am. At first we tried to follow the Smoke Creek Road but it was completely washed away & impassable 5 1/2 miles W (up canyon) of the turnoff. Turned back and Headed for Flanagan via Sand Pass. Just before reaching Round Hole we saw 3 Pronghorn Antelope run across the road and head W up into the Hills, where they proceeded to watch us. At Flanagan we headed NW towards Lassen Co. & Susanville. We turned off on A3 however to link up with 395 S towards Reno, but took a R. onto Hway 70 to Chilcoot. Took a R on Hway 284
