On Ann Brooke's suggestion & with her help & instruction (Viscachca H.P. experience with Lynn Brauch) decided to sedate thoroughly & take blood via heart function. injected 0.25 ml Rat Cocktail (see recipe) ip. After 10 mins took 1cc blood via H.P. This technique is much more satisfactory than using hemocrits tubes. I used 1cc Tuberculin Syringes fitted with a 27 guage x 1/2" needle. I heparinize the syringe prior to use. Felt for heart beat just beneath and about halfway along the sternum. Insert needle only 5-6 mm (obliquely under) from R.H.S. of operator (rat, left) and withdraw 0.3-0.5 ml blood. Remove needle and transfer blood to heparinized microcentrifuge tube or eppendorf tube. V. little blood remained in the test animal (ie #2199).
