When we eventually got to the top, we were Greeted by the 18 yr old "assistant manager" of Darwin Falls who asked us not to use soap since Panamint Springs uses the water for drinking. Fair enough. The deep pool of previous years however had silted up so everybody resorted to standing beneath the gushing cascade. We found an easier way down the mountain and cooled off in another pool on the way. When we got back down I was horrified to realize that the four live Perognathus had been left in the car for much of the afternoon. They all died from heat stress. I felt terrible, what a waste. Some of Johnather's lizards, a Sceloporus magister, Cnemidophorus and one Pisosauru also died. Six volunteers helped me to set the 40 Sherman along the creek bed. Somebody also found a worm snake - what a beauty. Betsy Mitchell and Wayne Souza joined the group at dinner time. We then had an impromptu game of softball in the wash, using a big chunk of creosote as a bat. Drank beer and sang songs around the
