Kelly 1985 2 Journal May 19 Pisgah Crater, San Bernardino Co., California The optional 107 field trip to the Mojave Desert started at 7am at the HVZ loading dock. 22 students and 2 TAs prepared to head south on I-5 to join Harry Greene & Claudia Luke at Pisgah (also John Carothers & Johnmatter Lozos). Unfortunately I also had to bring bad news to Harry: that his Dad died last night from a heart attack. The students divided up the food supplies & equipment between cars. I travelled with Jeff Groth who was en route to Arizona to collect some cross-bills. I brought my 1/2 Tomahawk Chipmunk traps and 40 Shermans to introduce the students to desert mammals, and also to collect some Perognathus for Jim Patton. We left HVZ at 8:10am and arrived at the Pisgah "Hilton" (see Claudia's Notes) around 5pm after a few leisurely pit stops. The whole group arrived by 6pm. Harry was naturally upset regarding the bad news from home. He phoned his mother & DBWife, and made plans to fly to Texas from Palm Springs in the morning. At 6:30pm I recruited some volunteers and we set all 50 traps near the camp. The 10 Tomahawks in cracks in the lava
