P.A.Kelly 1984 25 Journal but sedated the animals first with Metofane (Methoxyflurane) an inhalant anaesthetic from Pitman-Moore, Inc., Washington Crossing, NJ 08560. Administered thru a cotton filled funnel while the animals were restrained in the bottom of a bag having 1/2" mesh netting at the bottom. The first five animals were no problem but the last one (from U. Spring) died after treatment with Meto fane. All animals were sexed, weighed and car-tagged before toe-clipping. In the afternoon we decided to trap some other rockfiles along Hwy 89. Could not find anymore chipmunk traps so used the larger Tomahawk traps (20"x71/2"x71/2 with 1"mesh). Set 6 Traps at X 89 (across Hwy 89 from Station) " 3 " " Mile 3.7 (Mile Marker along Hwy 89 -> Sierraville) " 6 " " Mile 4.2 ( " " " " ) Reset 9 " " Rockslide Reset 4 " " Lower Spring Set 10(4 more) " Upper Spring (E.) Mile 3.7 & 4.2 are rockslides on the right hand side of Hwy 89 toward Sierraville 3.7 & 4.2 miles from the Sierra Co/Nevada Co border. 8:30-10pm: Cold Clear Evening. Checked all 40 traps. Got 1 bushy-tail at Mile 4.2, heard trap closing while on the rockfile, which was lucky because although weighing 240g she was able to squeeze out (40 TRAPS IN ALL)
