P.A. Kelly 1984 21 Journal Sagehen Creek Field Station, Nevada Co., California Sept. 28 Got bus across the Bay to San Francisco State Univ where I got a ride with Katie Martin and her husband to Sagehen. Katie is in Lon Parker's Plant Ecology Class and all went on fieldtrip. We left the Bay Area around 3pm, we stopped east of Auburn at a Burger & Whole Foods Place for lunch, and arrived in Sagehen around 7:30 pm. Stocked up on provisions in Safeways in Truckee before hand. Mike & Mary Loder Williams were away on holiday and Diana Land from Davis was looking after the station. Intended to set some traps at the Upper Spring Site but it was too much of a hassle in the dark. Burked down in one of the small cabins west of the station. Sept 29 Bloody cold during the night so didn't venture out of my sleeping bag until 8am. After breakfast got some traps from the Fishery Hut and started work. Before lunch I laid 14 traps (baited with a mix of peanut butter & oatmeal) at the Upper Spring Site, and 8 more at "the Rockslide" north east of the station. Had a sandwich for lunch, and then took 6 more traps to the lower Spring Site. Then walked for more than 1/2 hr west & the south.
