P.A.Kelly 1984 20 Journal big wiz apparently. We didn't stay long however but instead drove to Aherlow House Hotel where we had great, but expensive (£1.20/pint) Guinness, and looked out over the Glen of Aherlow for the evening. It was a beautiful site: forested valley sides, and the small green fields of the glen floor were surrounded by tall, dense hedge rows of Hawthorn. 2nd Aug. 16 I got up around 6am to check the Museum Specials, and I had all the catch skinned and tagged before Cally got up. We then proceeded to lift all the longworths and had cleared everything by 12 noon. We detoured on the way back to Galway to take in the Rock of Cashel an ancient monastic ruin high on a rock over the Golden Vale of Tipperary. Total Catch in: Ballinacourty Longworths Cortachor Specials Apodemus sylvaticus 22 6 Clethrionomys glareolus 12 2 + Eater Remains Sorex minutus 3+ Tail Erithacus rubecula (Robin) 1 Low trap success for Clethrionomys probably a combination of the usual summer low in vole numbers, and maybe some effects of this summers long drought.
