E.L. Karlstrom 1954 Journal (29) June 6 Gator snakes, an occasional rattler reported from this trail area by workers. These men come upon lots of herps while working the trails and they could be expected to encounter trods if they are in area. I went up Half Dome date unknown. Weather cold and sky cloudy. See Hydramante for account of weather and own trip of Dome. Returned to my camp 1 p.m. (1 mile E of) Walking down the meadow toward Nevada Falls I found one adult 20" rattler killed within about 24 hours, probably by a fisherman. I found one Ensatia juvenile while working at base of Nevada Falls for Hydramante. None of latter found. Cool afternoon with partially clear skies. Returned Hazy Lakes 6:15 p.m. June 12 Checked weather station Sentinel Meadow 4 p.m. (D.S.) Left Valley 4:45 p.m., speedmeter 30530. Headed Hwy. Light particles of snow (few) above 6000 feet along edge of road. This all that's left after snowfall early this week. Check weather station 6:15 p.m. (D.S.) after waiting in car 1/2 hour for deluge of rain to slough up. Clearing skies day seven, especially to West. Temperature in low 50's. I gave up heading out to Monjerna since the storm let up and skies to west dry 8
