Critical maximum temps.
Bufo boreas and B. canorus
Oct. 4 Expt #2 (cont.)
5.10+ canorus removed ad cloacal maximum taken 38.6°C.
it regained righting reflex within 30-40 seconds
and assumed upright stance
5:12 boreas cloacal temp. (max.) 38.7°C. it remained
in the warm jar longer and was in deeper shock.
Placed on paper towel, ad it righted itself within
a minute, walked within 3 minutes. Also regained
extended appearance of mid-body region. While
in state of heat shock, it had appeared
shrunken.
Since boreas had been inactive for several
minutes near the end of the experiment, it is
hard to determine just when it went into shock.
Both toady became active before losing their
mobility about at the same time.
Cloacal temps. are probably close to critical
maximum this experiment. No significant difference
between the two species, although boreas again
may have gone into heat shock at a lower
temperature than canorus
Results Expt. #2:
Critical maximum B. boreas and B. canorus
38-39°C.
*note boreas relatively stunted condition compared to
canorus. Former kept alive in Yosemite museum since
quovison & received food half of summer.
