L. Kardium 1954 Bufo canorus (37) June 21 Boggy meadow, 7300 ft., Y.N.P., Mariposa Co., Calif. width of rivulet here 10-12". Flow comes in from many directions. This is approximate position where toads taken. Distance to road 90 yards S. Meadow drier than ever before, only soggy in lower sections. Insects numerous - lady bugs, flies. Max- min. air 4:30 P.M. (D.S.) 88-28° F. Present 78° F. in shade. Soil max-min. 85-32° F. Present 74° F. Surface - 22°C. Water temp. in rivulet W of 6" - 19°C Weather station 4:50 P.M. (D.S.) 12" - 16.2°C. 25°C. (drill shod) Dwarf 18" - 15.5°C. Willow leafed out & catkins 24" - 11.0°C. Balf developed. June 28 Same locality. Check made for canorus at meadow 6900 ft. about 3/4 mile N of boggy meadow, toads only. Air max-min. 84-31° F. Present 69° F. Soil " " 83-34° F. " 65° F. July 10 Meadow at start of 21-mile Tioga mine road, 8300 ft., Tuolumne Co., Calif. Plenty of running and standing water here. Rana adult and large tadpoles present. Also toads (to 3/4" body length) seen. Wildflowers blooming - monkey flowers, shooting stars "lark-spurs", Phloxalin, asters. No sign of toads any form. Seems a good locality but lack of open low grass meadow area may be a factor. 4 adult yellow-legged frogs taken.
