E.L. Kardatum 1954 Bufo canorus (34) June 19 NE side Tioga Pass Ranger Station, Mono Co., Calif. sense with given ideal growth. It is apparent that toads at this early stage tend to remain in area where eggs were laid. Two sites of egg deposition are 20 feet apart and could represent two females. Four scattered toads between sites of egg deposition. Water temp. when eggs laid (in full sun) 26° C. at 11:25 A.M. and must reach 30° at least by afternoon. 11:40 A.M. I recorded calls from S edge of meadow, slowly moving seep water due to 1" depth. No less than 5 males within 20 yards of my position. Crosses to 8-10 inches, brown. [sketch] The toads B & C love repeatedly tried anglepuses, in spite of release notes given - a softer trial. -> on top often gives dead full trial. They quite violently reversed positions once. now at 11:54 A.M. The Two are 3 feet in front of me in final pectral anglepus position. lower toads walking forward, scopes, and try 10 with deeps the aggressor again climbs on him. They separate and top toad immediately starts calling in series with A & D. then the one of B & C combination finds F and continues anglepuses with similar results. I
