(D.S.) This is sure pond I collected female and young
frogs by this afternoon. Two (>) canorus hand
calling, one on E ad one on W side of lake. First
(Toga #2)
1 1/2 (?) minutes of Hyler with toad coming in from
50 yards across lake. Neither toad trilled from 9:15-
10:15 P.M. but gave sporadic long series of notes,
each series lasting 8-13 seconds. I would estimate
about 3 notes per second. Temp. 10:05 P.M. 2"
above damage, dead grass -0.1°C. Water temp
at edge of lake where 1 1/2' deep, 2" below surface
15°C. I could not get close to either male toad.
They cease calling when I get within 10-20 yards
of them. My mincing them may start their
calling but not consistently. One young or female
frogs seen during check 2/3 rds way around
edge of lake. First frog actually seen 10:25 P.M.
at edge of another large pond about 150 yards SE
Station. In shallow water, a depression in sand
14" from deeper (14") water of pond. Measured 12.6°C.
Water 9.8°C. Suspect toad located eye by my
hand during taking of temperature. I had hand
are adult (>) a half hour earlier from this vicinity.
Toad calls came through well only when Hyler eased
eye. Air temp 3.8°C. at this pond edge. Ended
night check 10:50 P.M.
