may 28 Beregy meadow, 7300 ft., Yoz. Notte Park.
neale 6/7-28. Present 63° F. Reset ord upored with
mosquitoes are plaguing me bee for the first time this
spring. Soil temps. 0"-2½°, 6"-11.5° C.; 12"-10°; 18"-8.5°
24"-8.0° C. Nor snow patches visible south side of
the road. Meadow grasses average 4" range 2-8"
Small white wildflowers to 1" height. Ground
around station moist but not saturated. Moisture
can be squeezed from it. More open parts of meadow
S of road drier. Solid underfooting over most all
of area except for stream margins. Water temp. 1"
deep surface run-off 25 yards W of station 17.8° C.
at 2:10 P.M. (D.S.) Temp. main rivulet 22.6° C.
at spot previously recorded. Bozy sun, no [illegible]
breeze. Water thermometer upper meadow working well
but may be reading 2° high. Calibrate end of week's
run. Snow all melted except for tiny patches now
under the pines. Plenty run-off water upper meadow.
Adult Bassa (3) seen but no eggs yet.
May 24 I checked meadows near Tinrock Flot Road junction
with Trigle Road (Yngy. 120), and are 2.8 road miles
from Crane Flot Ranger Station, Nor fooda or eggs
seen.
White Wolf Mdw., 8400 ft., Yosemite Natl. Park, Merced Co., Calif. 12 pm. Hyla clorwery. I chirped in
my best canous forskin ad got a sputtering response
from a rock bird. He called but twice and after that
I couldnt induce more calls, ad didn't find the animal.
