Karstam 1954 Buffs (17) May 26 0.2 mi NW Kaiser Pass Summit, Fraser Co., Coly. this time so switeled in my herdmg presenring to pulling sticks, there were 3 adult Buffs within 25 feet of me, one 4 feet from me which was placed 15' from me out toward the center of the meadow. May 27 Same locality as above. Frost over everything this A.M. Temp. over frozen ground beside the car at 7:15 A.M. (D.S.) -2.0°C, no anemone calling from meadow, I had breakfast and then went out to check the meadow, no adult moles out in open. Water frozen except where its moving, 1/4" thick ice over still pools, I started turning over logs. One adult -> under pine (?) log located 25 yards W of pine forest margin. Burden piece of log 4'x9"x8". She -> was 3/4 the emmised in a pool measuring 6'x4'x3" deep. Air temp. 7:45 A.M. 1" above frozen ground - 6" from food -2°C. Blody hole from 50' lodgepole pines to east. Sun just filtering through, ice 1/4" thick on yards, above food had cleared temp. 1.8°C.; water in which it sat, the same. Replaced log over food (later check at 1 P.M. showed this small did moved out from under log - may have been one I type recorded calling.) Temp. under another log 5' from where food found 4°C. 1" deep pool unfrozen water beneath log, 7:58 A.M. (D.S.) I found ne juneval food under a curved rotted log 5'x6"x4". log situated under pine forest edge of meadow. Blade hole but 10%.
