E.L. Kardatum 1954 Bufo canorus (5) April 30 Peregry rrdw., 7300 ft., Yosemite Natl. Park, Manzana Cr., Calif. max-min reading now 22° F - 61° F. Present reading 41° F. This air type with max-min. themmeter bulbs about 10" above ground. The housing was upright and intact. Then, next 3:05 P.M. max-min. of thermometer buried in soil 32°-61° F. I replaced it some general area but to W of box. Soil types. 3:10 P.M. (D.S.T.) Surface - 3½°C. (bulbs just under soil surface) 6" - 1½°C. 12" - 2½°C. 18" - 20 C. 24" - 2½° C. I set up Taylor air thermograph, calibrated 3:20 P.M. (D.S.T.) Present reading 40° F. Tube containing instrument is buried 2" in snow and soil. Plywood cover (½" thick) covers entire tube. Snow piled up 2" around outside of tube for insulation. Water type, moving rivulet 12 feet W of weather station 2.90° C. 3' wide, 1" deep. Snow to 5" along margins. Larger main stream 2°C. Some icicles where small part of stream cascades a foot down on willow branches. Mt. Chickadees in pine trees calling. The snow has a glazed crust.
