L. Karlstrom 1954 Buffer zone (36) June 9 Sentinel meadow, 1/2 mi. S of Cast Center. pathing. I forgot to send the blanks on #1. #3 photo taken facing E toward my weather station. Overcast with low clouds but some sun showing through. clouds cover walls of valley down to within 500 feet of valley floor. Slight drizzle began 9 A.M. Hyla relat but blackbirds active. Air max-min, 83-31° F. Presat air temp 46° F. Soil max-min, 71-39° F. present 42° F. Reset both. Did not close through data at the time. June 11 Stevenson meadow, 4000 ft., Yosemite Valley, Mariposa Co., Calif. Clear, mild evening. No water at all in pond A or adjacent pools, although bottom of pools soggy mud. Not a bird seen. The birds are most efficient in cleaning them up. Grasses within the pool area show retarded growth and 2/3 of the bottom area covered with dead matted grasses. The margins of the pools seem to have suffered most from the oiling, especially those margins where the wind had forced concentration of the oil. ↑N Pond A gross to 30" sedges to 16" dead matted grass margin 2-4' wide.
