E.L. Kardstrom 1954 Bulor Lorenz (35) June 4 Afternoon Meadow, 4000 ft., Yez. Valley As I approached the birds footprints were all around the wet mud at the edge of the puddle. I took a sample. On the north side of the road there is still a considerable flow of water along the main ditch thru the meadow, although many parts are drying up. Hydras toes only seen. June 5 SW loose of Wolf Dene, 6100 ft., Y.N.P., Mariposa Co., Calif I hiked off the trail through a tangle of pine and sagebrush vegetation to check meadow nesting between Mt. Broderick and Wolf Dene. The largest I encountered is 150 yards long x 125 yards wide. The sedge is up to 18" height. It is almost impossible to get through or around the meadow. It is completely flooded with water to a maximum depth of probably 18" in the lower parts. The pine forest crowds in right at the water's edge. Along with lodgepole and yellow pine there is quaking aspen, western azolen and buckner. Horse dung indicates use of this as a pasture when it has dried out. No signs of any animals. Thoroughbreds 2. couleis seen at edge of meadow. June 9 Dentrid Meadow, 1/2 mi. S Cast. Center. Snow fell last night following a day of almost constant rain. I checked the area for tracks 8-8:45 P.M. last night. Vegetation soaping wet, ground saturated, and light dizzle falling. No tracks seen. Today I photographed meadow at 8:30 A.M.
