Bufo boreas (25)
May 14 1/2 mi. S Carl. Center, Yosemite Valley, margina Co. Calif.
of the sedges (?) go as high as 30" length but stand isolated. Tallest grasses are in low pond areas
(as in middle of study pond). The willow-like bushes
described previously as to 10' height and partially
leafed-out, i.e. 1/2 the buds have burst. Wild rose (?)
intermingling with the other plants in clumps is fully
leafed out. Other fully leafed out. Meadow in Valley
are almost fully green. Some acceleration in bloom of
filamentous algae. Hyla tad present in study pond
but not abundant, single taken. One Hyla egg
cluster (to remain store) seen in study pond.
10:00 A.M. Both thermographs working perfectly,
calibrated with Shuttle's quick-reading thermometer,
decided them and left meadow.
May 22 Same locality as above. 8:55 P.M. Two adults, one ? and
other ?, tadpoles picked up in brook area 20 yards
S of main road as I stood with friends awaiting the
"furious" Yosemite Fireball. Not worked since no equipment
along. Released right away. This Hyla, dry broken area
seems a favored food spot.
May 23 Night check at Carl. Center locality revealed 3
adult toads. Temperature data follows (see data sheets
for worked toads)
