E.L. Karleton 1954 Butor boreas (14) May 1 1/2 mi. S Bart. Center, 4000 ft., Yosemite Valley, Mariposa Co., Calif. Few tailed frogs in study pond, no egg clusters seen. I collected a sample of Hyloa tora. Estimate fewer than one per square yard over the entire pool. More on shallowen SE and SW side where blue-green algal development further along. In general algal development not well along, about same as April 24 at 11:05 A.M. (D.S.T.) 1/3 of study pond dried including temperature equipment. Water temp. 1" below surface 11:10 A.M. 8.1° C. (cloudy area of pool) Some sunny part 13.8° C. Stevenson meadow, 4000 ft., Yosemite Valley, Mariposa Co., Calif. Toads collected 11:50 A.M. (D.S.T.) at same pond Stevinsics took them last week. Water 1" below surface 18.2° C. Air (bulls shelled) 13.6° C. No Bufo or Hyloa eggs present. Additional pools formed by recent rains. Sample of Bufo & Hyloa toads from Pond A and adjacent newer pond to W of Pond A. Water temp. 1" below surface near Pond A 17.8° C., Air 12.6 (bulls shelled). Depth of pool here 3-4". Robin today seen at or at meadow pools feeding or gathering nest materials (?) The meadow grasses here in similar condition as those at Government Center, some green blades over a foot in height. Additional small seepage (seep?) pools present this meadow. Actual water rise in pool A since April 24 not more than an inch or so.
