Bufo boreas (12)
April 24 Altamenas Meadow, 4000 ft., Yosemite Valley, Mariposa
Co., Calif. 4:40 P.M. Pond A and other adjacent
ponds searched for eggs and toads. No eggs present
but some of the ponds have large numbers of toads -
both Bufo and Boreas. Samples taken including both
with approximate ratio if singly will not at random.
Water temp. Pond A 21.50 C. with bulbs slotted. A
long trough 11 yards SE of Pond A loaded with
frogs. This pool measures 14 x 2 yards and parallels
the pathway bisecting this side of the meadow. Air
temp. 13° C. De max-min thermometer is submerged
3 inches in water. This means approximately a .5-.6
inch rise in level of Pond A. Max-min readings
at 4:55 P.M. 32-84. The thermometer bulbs were
5" above water surface. Water temp. Pond A 4:52
P.M. 20.4° C. Sky clouded over again & found no
eegs in Pond A or adjacent ponds.
Soil temps. 5:05 P.M. Surface about 15° C.

24" " 9.0 C.
Meadow area S of Court Center, Yosemite Valley
Mariposa Co., Calif. 7:45 P.M. Stedman and I
checked this area thoroughly for signs of toads.
An earlier check (6:30-7:00 P.M.) showed that
extensive and varied breeding pools available.
