E.L. Kastum 1954 Journal (32) July 10 Left Yosemite Valley 10:45 A.M. with family. Gas at Lodge Service Station 13.0 gallons, mileage reading 31582. Weather clear and sunny, in high 70's, no breeze. $6.52 with oil change. Took ) Hwy 120 to Crane Flat, then Tioga Road. First stage 31612 at start of 21-mile Tioga Mtn Road. Weather clear and bright. Hybla trees abundant and Rosa adults (4) taken. Large 1 1/4" Rosa tree seen in road. Second stage 1:15 P.M. Snow Flat, NE side of road. Hybla tree ad both pink adults & tords. Crosses green, overgrowing 4" high. Road open meadow with small stream meandering thru it. 2 P.M. I checked small lakes near Evruti Dome, 1 1/2 miles N-NW of Twolumne Meadows. Mountain quiter smoke taken along with R. braylei. Large deer at garbage pits. Set up camp at Twolumne meadows 2:30, then ealso sawing deck 8:30 P.M. cleared of Tioga area. 3 P.M. Clear and very windy. July 11 left camp at Twolumne Meadows for Tioga Pass. mileage there 31681. The weather mild and clear but typical high velocity southeley winds blowing over the pass. left Tioga 11:00 A.M. for Lee Vining. Now U.S. 395 to Hwy 108 W over Sierra Pass. Continued warm, clear day. Bogged drying out of creeks and meadow yards at Sierra Pass area. No canars seen. Gas at Laverna (mileage 31821) 10 gallons, but took with 2+ gallons left. Weather clear and very hot in high 90's. Big Oak Flat Road to Yosemite. 7 P.M.
