Pied-billed Grebe
Nov. 30 Berkeley Aquatic Park, Alameda Co., Calif.
Overcast, occasional rain. Group of 6 swimming
in loose group, not diving synchronously, but
foraging within 100 ft of each other. Usually
submerge head first in dive but sometimes just
sink feet 1st & head last as if sinking in
quick sand. Occasionally also only surface so
head (not neck) appears above water.
