July 14 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. N.W. Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
my all day a little noticeable wind.
By mid-afternoon it began to cloud up
and was threatening to rain by 4:30.
Started to rain hard by 4:45.
July 15 Kiln Meadow 8:30 AM. Set up camera to try
to photograph Picket pins dry. Remote con-
trol. No luck. Walked over to the shade on
S side of meadow and found the Picket
pins living in very moist situ-
ations in the grass, as well as in
the sagebrush on the dry N edge.
Lots of "(marmot)" scat on the
open floor of the shade. My guess
is skunk, but will have to see. Left
by 11 AM. Lower colony. 2 PM. Got
a number of soft-bottom samples
with Jim to use in his paper. These
stations were in soft-bottom
areas just upstream from dam.
Had lots of trouble & dredge, etc.
Left 6:30 PM. Weather hot all
July 16 day. Upper colony 1:30 PM Finished mark-
ing some used aspen in the center of the
colony and built an observation
platform in a lodgepole from which
a good view can be obtained of
most of the pond in vicinity of house
