Monte Albán, 1850 m., Oaxaca, Mexico
8 August 0630 awoke and drove to check traps.
Results:
7 Liomys irroratus (1 released)
1 Baiomys sp. musculus (released)
Success: 8/100
The liomys were captured in some of the densest vegetation on the hillside. They were caught in 'clusters' of 2-3 individuals also.
The dominant vegetation was thorn-forest type (Mesquite, Acacia, Opuntia) and much dense annual grass in places.
0745 drove further up the road to the Monte Albán ruins (Zapotec & Mixtec cultures) to take photographs. We were the only visitors to the entire ruins for the first ½ hours so we had the opportunity to take some nice photographs uncluttered by people.
0900 drove back into Oaxaca, where we had breakfast - typical slow, unconcerned service. We then exchanged money at a local bank. Upon our return to the car we found that a VW had pinned-us-in by double-parking behind us. We waited of several minutes then we bodily picked-up the front of the VW and turned it out of our way. People stood by and watched - as happens everywhere,
