Hullon 1949 Sciurus griseus -1- Sept 1 3 mi N Willow Creek, 700 ft., Humboldt Co. Calif. On August 27 I saw 2 of there squirrels feeding in Chinquapins along the road just N of camp in what I call Mixed Forest (Journal p. 158) later the same day (4:30 p.m.) while coming down Waterman Ridge (Cedar Creek Trail) above camp, one fine big animal came bounding across the needle and branch litter under a stand of Douglas Firs without undergrowth, leaped onto the trunk of a nearby fir and and quickly climbed to the top. At then ran from tree to tree crossing by interlacing branches. On August 31, one was seen in the Brush Bottom (Journal p. 165) area just N of Willow Creek. There this animal was again working through the trees by jumping from limb to limb. - Brannan Mtn 3950 feet, Humboldt Co. Calif.- 1 animal heard for the forest on the N side of the summit about 300 feet down slope. A second one was seen in the Douglas Fir on the divide just E of Johnson Prairie.
