Maclean 1967 Journal 8 June Evidence of incubation. Pectorals were confusing - ♂ were very abundant but ♀ were scarce. ♂ were displaying and loosely territorial. They quickly chased any female that I managed to flush. Saw a number of solitary Buff-Breeds, with some wing waving. Walked over a lot of tundra without scaring a ♀ pectoral off of a nest, and only 1 alpina. Shot a ♂ + ♀ pectoral, then a plover on the way in and arrived in time for a late dinner. Spent the evening working on these specimens and others collected in past few days. 19 June Barrow, Alaska Spent the morning finishing up specimens and notes. Both Tom and Karl want to mark birds so Tom and Dan prepared mist nets while I stayed out of the way by putting hardware cloth racks in our new bank of 8 bertés funnels. Went out to the drum area to put the mist net into operation. Set it by a telephone pole and tried to herd longspurs and sandpipers, with little success. Decided to leave the net set and see what flies into it.
