Journal.
[11 June] semi-pals. Spent the day in town -
saw Rev. Samuel Simmons - returned
late.
12 June
Barrow, Alaska
Day started foggy, but sun
broke through and by noon it was warm
and sunny. Walked out into the drum
area - semi pals were more abundant
and active than previous visit..... and
baird's are finally here! A newly
arrived group of 8 or more were
spread about drum area - chasing and
displaying. Found a #7 King Eider in good
plunge - injured or exhausted and not flying.
Returned for camera and got an AEI
Exacta to use for black and white. Shot
the last of the black and white in my
camera on the drum area pit-fall
area and the king Eider, then shot nearly
a roll of Kodachrome on the bird.
After lunch went out with Karl
and Pitelka to the Voth Area. Potemkin
near Cake-eater to collect while Karl
and I wandered toward Village Ridge to
see if semi-pals and bairds have moved
in there. They haven't. Watched a pair of
pectoralis in floccoso low polygon area that
has just opened up East of the ridge.
