Maclean 1967 Journal [8 June] exposed in the last 2 days. Saw white- crowned sparrow (♂) and heard tree sparrow. P. heard water pipit. Semi-poles were very numerous and active - chasing and displaying - but no bairros'. After lunch the three of us took the weasel. Went first to west end of gasoline Ridge. Found the Owl nest reported by Tom Case - now 3 eggs. Heard almost no sandpiper sounds - finally 3 redbacks began a display bout. Saw several pecterals fly by. Next to Gasoline Ridge, then to S end of P's plot, up the plot, and in. Owls were surprisingly numerous. Jacks are abundant and becoming territorial. But still not much lemming sign! Golden Plovers seen in good number - 1 displaying ♂ over W Gasoline Ridge. 2 others were undisturbed by ♂ displaying above. Saw several groups of newly arrived pectorals - no display. P saw a group of ca. 25 red phalaropes - the first of the year - fly over his plot. Spent the evening working on specimen material. I will take 3 measurements on fresh bills: culmen length, culmen height taken as distal
