Maclaa, 1967 Journal [9 August] Mares. Found a flock of >100 alpina feeding around coastal ponds; ca. 30 puxillus and 5 turnstones there also, w/ ca. 50 phalaropes - almost all immature. Drove to polygon area S. of Shootip Station and took 8 800 cores from polygon through system, then drove to Central Marsh for 8 more. Cold on the Range! Flock of c.a. 25 puxillus or weasel road - otherwise, all birds were coastal. Saw no peotards, but didn't look too far into the Marsh. Similarly, no plowers, although Maria reported a flock of them by the bridge near Bimirk. Saw a red fox right near Pow Main. It wasn't at all impressed by the weasel - just slowly loped away. Returned to the tent and warmed up, then returned to put 800 samples in journals (one big Prionocera right away from the Marsh), then home to write notes until bed, late. 10 August Barrow, Alaska Snow in the morning again. Finished up notes and copied feeding observations, then measured larvae from berleses: 7 P.hannai from the troughs; 4 P.hannai and 4 Prionocera (big ones) from the marsh.
