6 August
up 8 herbivores collected today.
Barrow to Uniar, Alaska
Spent the morning counting yesterday's
tanglefoot bawas, with Don helping. WE
are still getting the small tipulio-like beast,
but no more of the 3 major tipulio species.
Biomass is conspicuously down.
After lunch Dan and I were rushed
out to the airport for a flight to Uniar,
then stood around and waited for a
wheel to be changed on the plane. Finally
took off with Joe Felder flying and Dr.
kobayashi (Japanese mycologist) as 4th
person in the plane. Flew quite high-
as is usual with Felder - so we couldn't
see much.
Landed at Uniar to find Clayton
White and Dr. Spofford - of Tom Cade's
river-cruising falcon watchers - there.
Dan and I were immediately into willow
scrub East of runway - saw and heard
many willow warblers
