Phaldrpex are beginning to pile up - 40 to 50 of them, spread out on all of the pans. the 500 samples taken last time (4 days ago) are still producing. that means many samples were discarded too soon. these lar produced >30 Pedicia and 4 Trioncer larvae. the last batch produced no tipulids but many chloronias, in an area showing sign of old disturbance. May be mutual exclusion operating. 4 August Barrow, Alaska Put new batch of 500 cores in the funnels, then spent most of the morning hands picking the central marsh batch. Found 4 additional larvae - : berlese's extracted 16, or 80%. Watched carefully for small larvae, but still found none. there may be an obligate diapause in the egg stage, so that this year's eggs have not yet hatched. After lunch drove Charlie our to Shooting Station, then returned to write abstract for Alaska AAAS meeting. Gus began acting up worse than ever - spent the evening trying to clear our the damn gas.
