Collected 1 P.d. and 6 alpine in
the afternoon to check stomach contents
while I know tipulias are down. Until
the work does goes down, however, I will
pickle the stomachs for later analysis.
19 July
Barrow, Alaska
Spent most of the day counting up the
car traps between 3 and 15 July. Interesting-
tipula : 1600 ♂ : 425 ♀
Prionocory : 10♂ : 1♀
Pedicia : 474♂ : 130♀
i.e. - the sex ratio diverges most from 1
in tipula, not Pedicia. Also, this differs
(I'll wager significantly) from the results
for tipula 15-18 July.
After that wrote up descriptions of
feeding observations - short form (see attached)
and long-form - and gave them to Eona to
type. Finished bottling and labeling tipulio
samples, then drove to Birnik for duck soup
dinner with the in-laws. Went back to
lab later to freeze tipulio material and
measure skulls, then home to write notes.
