Overall appearance and relative size:
Two were seen in same field with Lapland Longspur - slightly smaller but otherwise similar shape
Bill: possibly smaller proportionally than Lapland's
Crown and forehead: finely striped dark brown and very pale brown
Nape: finely streaked (no rusty)
Face: pattern like winter-Lapland but much less distinct - not as much contrast between cheek patch and eyeline, etc. Buffier than Lapland
Eye: can't remember
Throat: buffy white
Breast and sides: very pale brown, some faint streaks
Belly and flanks: whitish brown
Undertail coverts:
Back: pale with dark streaking proceeding down body axis - generally grayish brown
Wings: [illegible] with rusty area in wing coverts like Lapland
Gray-brown
Underwings: not seen
Rump: brown - contrasted with grayer back
Uppertail coverts: brownish
