Please print or type Species Black-throated Green Warbler Date(s) 16 Sept. 1973 Location SE corner of Rosecroft Gardens, Point Loma, San Diego County San Diego State Calif Elevation ~300' Observer Van Remsen Number of birds 1 Time of Day 1400 Light conditions excellent - sun from back Distance to bird 30-100' Optical equipment Length of time observed 5 minutes in 4 separate periods Sex Unknown Plumage (e.g. Breeding) non-breeding Overall appearance and relative size: Obviously a Townsend's Hermit type warbler Bill: Color not noted. Shape like Townsends. Crown and forehead: Bright green Nape: bright green Face: mostly very bright lemon yellow but with a darker superciliary line which bent down into the face once behind the eye, and then up again to the eye. The upper line of this triangle was the darkest of the three sides. Eye: dark Throat: yellowish - white Breast and sides: Smudgy black upper breast band extending in a discreet ring across the upper breast. Two black streaks extended down each side from the breast band. Lower breast below chest was immaculate white - no trace of yellow. Belly and Flanks: Completely white except for a very inconspicuous smudge of pale yellow behind the thighs to the side of the vent. This yellow continued from both thighs and met at the vent, but was almost invisible at the vent. This yellow was definitely thought not to be present until we finally got a close view of the bird (~30-40') Undertail coverts: white Back: Bright green. This was seen a number of times by all observers present. No streaks Wings: dark with two conspicuous white wing bars Underwings: Not seen Rump: Not noted Uppertail coverts: Note noted
