May 25, New York improvement in quality, effectiveness, and instruction is the only kind of advance possible. The big exhibit tires the visitor; small exhibits, in each field, are likely to realize most on the investment; if well selected. May 26 Had a visit with Dr. C.H. Townsend time afternoon at the Aquarium. I find him to be about 60 years old but very vigorous - a typical executive, fills schemes for expanding the Aquarium, tho I can't for the life of me see why it isn't at its optimum usefulness right now. He goes strong on the figures of attendance - 3 million per year, more than attendance at all other N.Y. museums combined, yet he has least financial support!
