2 Apr. 23, California Hooded Oriole 4; Brewer Blackbird 6, Thrush 2; Song Sparrow 2; Yellow Warbler 2; Bram Tanager 4; Sparrows 2; Meadowlark 4. Tonight 7:30, saw a gofer running at large, straight away, and fast-- as fast as a rat might have run, crossing the width of the street in a very short time, with rapid foot treads. Short heavy body noticeable. But he couldn't get up on the curb and it overhauled him when he about-faced with menacing attitude in moral gofer fashion. Finally he went up a driveway approach to a barn. Now this gofer was certainly travelling abroad at a great rate. It was not a large one, possibly a young of the year. Saw bats around electric lights.
