A man came up late last night
from Pleasant Bay with a bear skin
and skull and a freshly caught beaver.
The beaver had unusually dark
fur. He was about 40 inches long
and weighed 35 lbs. It looked like
a mammoth gopher and was the
heaviest animal that I ever saw
for his size. I have worked all day
and there is more work on line
yet. Miss Alexander bought the
bear skin.

We spent the morning working
on specimens and in the afternoon
we packed up. I killed an "old
Squaw" at 200 yards with the rifle
and in the evening I caught a
place. About sundown we saw
the launch coming around the
point by Jackson's Cove and I
didn't ever believe that the sputter
of a gasoline launch could ever
sound as good as that one did.
