- April 20 - It has been warmer to day. The thermometer stood at 46° this morn- ing and at 42° tonight. The snow is going off fast. Mrs. Stephens has been in bed with a bad cold. I got 5 siskins this morning Mr. Littlejohn got a surf scoter and a gull as well as 3 mice. Mr. Stephens got two mice. Miss Alexander saw a deer but didn't get a shot. - April 21 - We got 3 grouse today, one was shot while he was sitting in a tree near the beach. A g was angry while she sat on a log about 10 ft away. She just had her head up and kept wiggling it around looking at us. otherwise we would not have noticed her at all. The dog was within 4 ft of her yet she would not fly. The I weighed a good 3 lbs and was sitting in a small spruce about 20 ft up. They can be heard shooting on all sides at all times of the day now.
