when we had run the rock squirrels on the way in
& saw another is almost the exact same spot. We
asked to her about the name of this terrance & as
we approached it was Barranca Juan Francisco.
At La Corzoja (9.4 mi. from camp) we saw a Sparrow Hawk.
Beyond La Corzoja (1.7 mi further) we stopped & took a picture
of the Swain Trio. This was just before the road goes
the
over the creek into the valley of Three Celles, 2.8 mi from
La Corzoja we saw another couple of rock squirrels.
This was along the steep east slope of the ridge.
About 1/2 mi below our old camp (night of July 15)
we saw a Scaled Quail & heard [illegible] growing. Dave
jumped & out & shot it & thry, with 1 shot; &
while field dressing the shot egg he saw a rattlesnake
which he also collected. This was slightly less than
3 mi. above a small town where the road makes a
rd. & bend. We asked about the name of the town
& the answer sounded like San Antonio de los Rios.
Just beyond this village we saw a ground squirrel
which looked like C. fulvescens & 3 Mouring Doves.
We also shot a Scajoforus & another 1 half a mi. further.
Half mi. further we saw Blue Grosbeaks, Vermillion
Flycatcher. 5 mi. beyond San Antonio we saw a Say's
Phoebe & lost a third Scajoforus. About 1 mi. further
we saw a Shrike & a Mockingbird; & 2.5 mi. before
