LIDICKER 1959 Journal July 20 Catch: Peromyscus truei - 1 (tree trunk, oats) Peromyscus difficilis - 4 (2 from wood shrub & large + 2 from Szigethian sets in bunch grass) Peromyscus sp (unus-local) - 2 (from field open ground with few tree shrubs - same as adjacent traps). Notting = 2 carnivore sets. While picking up 4 out traps in bunch grass saw a large alligator lizard. I packed off + shot it with .38 but this didn't seem to bother it & it ran under the bunch grass. I searched through the grass & finally spotted it + grabbed it. While checking carnivore sets, I saw an adult red-tailed hawk. While showing a machete bright me in 2 large Rara, + another fellow brought one. Physicians while he said he caught crossing the rd. I asked this fellow when Cavo del Jaging was & he pointed due South & said it was 5 or 6 km. distance. Later I asked another fellow who pointed in the same direction, but didn't know the distance. Another fellow had heard of Chichimico (+ the latter did not react to a picture of a chipmunk). The 2nd fellow said there were Gavolinos around & that lobos regularly killed cattle. Started raining about 1600 & continued into the evening. I climbed up the mountain to the ENE [unclear] + saw 46 traps in the rim rock near the top v. There is also a send (8700 ± ft.)
