the size of a large fox or coon; they were placed on rocks
along the trail & contained many berries (marguinta?). Also
set 4 rat traps for Sigmon in patch of brush grows
up canyon from camp. After dinner set 35 traps in
short grass on hill E of camp. Are scattered jimpas, small
rats, marguinta, etc., but in general is very open. Also set
1 Schtyler along rocky outcrops below camp. Picked up both
remaining gopher sets. Watched for bats from about 1945
to 2030, [illegible] from new crest of hill E of camp. Saw only
2 Eptesicus & got one of them. Both were flying very
high. This was the first evening since the night we
arrived in camp that there wasn't a light rain at dusk.
There is a full moon & it is quite cold. Heard Por-wills
& Whis-fur-wills calling abundantly. Autopsied Paromus
difficult for reproductive condition which was to be
thrown away: 8 cd. from July 18 -
