LIDICKER 1959 Journal afternoon light rain intermittently in evening. Birds seen around camp include: Striped Sparrow, Vireo with eyering + wing bars, Curve-bill Thrasher, Dark Jay, Bluebird. At dusk set out 21 traps on rocky slope down stream from camp. Checked traps about 2300. At dusk saw a number of Pipit eating + Dave shot one. Also seemed to be a few smaller bats around. Wrote notes in evening. About 2330 pm, small bats were seen flying near a tree by the stream + Ned shot 1 Myotis velifer. July 18 Picked up all traps except 4 set traps in the thick snow which I reverted with rainers. Made 3 gopher sets. Catch: bunch grass - Raithkovskitomp - 1 Parampus difficle - 1 rock outcrops - Nectomes - 2 pp. Parampus sp. (maniletos or nelandotis - unidentified froglike) - 1 P. difficile - 9 Took walk out into main valley below camp + back up on hill to ENE of camp. Birds seen include: Striped Sparrow, W. Bluebird, Scrub Jay, Lower Goldfinch, Bell's Seeded Grosbeak, Violet-ear Swallows Spotted Towhee, Robin, Brandt's Hummer, White-eared Hummer, Bench's Spotted Fulmaros, Cactus Kingbird, Worm-birds, House Wren. Some Vireo seen repeatedly. Dark Jay (around camp), Flicker (dark), Dark Juncos (abund.). I also flushed a caprimulgus from a small oak thicket which was pale brown, had white in tail but no white in wings. Bush tits around camp. Lots of gopher signs.
