Doc + Ned saw a S? Morn's Quail + Ned collected
a large Scoloporus. There was almost no juice in this
area so we turned around + returned to the fork
mentioned above + took the road to the west
(through a gate). We continued up the ridge
on the far side of the meadow, over the crest +
down the other side. This crest seems to be the
main divide; all the hills to the west seemed to be
lower with the exception of 2 peaks immediately to
our left which we took to be Cerro del Fraguy - or
something nearly to it. We continued about 3 miles
down the road which descends considerably + wind
through margaenta thickets. Since the road was
almost petering out, + since it was late + this seemed
to be getting us nowhere, we turned around + returned
to a small canyon on the east side of this ridge
which has a stream - which seems semi-permanent.
We made camp here about 1830. While at the fancy
dawn I saw a cottontail + a white-eared hummer. After
setting up camp, I set out 23 traps in brush grass above
the stream from camp + 13 traps on the slope above camp
+ among rocks, under bushes, + around old stone foundations
of old houses. Rain in evening + during night. Started
catching animals as soon as we set them out. Saw
a few large lots at dawn (look like Edentaria) but
weren't able to get any. A sketch of our camp
