W/W Colonia Prezente Calle). This town is W of
Presa Cals & quite a bit higher. The road goes southea
S out of town & the turn back W. About 1 mi. beyond
the R, we saw about 10 Lake S parrots & just a little
further we came to a larger settlement where the road
makes a set, & turn to the south (left). About 1 mi. down
the road we saw an Ardea Brev + 1 1/2 mi. from this town
another Sylviolygus. 3 mi. from town we heard a W.
Preckwhats. About 4 mi. above this town (by rd) - 11 mi.
from Col. Pres Celles + 17 mi. from turning from highway -
we stopped to camp. This is an area of rolling hills
covered with grass with a few scattered oaks. This is
at the base of the second major ridge which lies directly
to the W. There is a fairly large canyon to the N with
boundary walls, etc. In some places there is patches of fairly
thick growth of some willow-like shrubs. We saw a
number of large Sceloporus (torquatus group) along stone
walls. I set 10 traps along a stone wall [this was
a small unit of Neotoma signi], 30 traps in open
grassland, + 19 traps in scrubby & somewhat rocky area
with patches of bearbush, etc. Dave set the canyon walls
+ also the stone wall. Ned set - the willow-like vegetation
& head
as well as further down the canyon. We saw a few
rats at dusk + after dark, but couldn't get any. Heard
a number of frogs calling which sounded like some
leptodactylid. They were calling from the canyon walls
+ bottom. Ned caught 4 & Dave got 1 in morning,
